The purpose of this practice–based thesis was to provide Laurea University of Applied Sciences nursing students with e-learning material about premature infants. The aim of the thesis was to increase the develop materials about preterm infants, related health challenges and special features related to nursing work of preterm infants. The thesis includes a report and presentation of the online learning material. The theoretical background of the thesis deals with the special physiological and nursing features of preterm infants. The data base of the thesis used researched, evidence-based information. The theoretical background was compiled using source criticism from various online databases for health care professionals, research articles in the field, textbooks in the field, and research data found in other printed sources. Based on the knowledge base, E-learning material was designed and made in collaboration with Laurea University of Applied Sciences based on the theoretical framework. The learning material contains theoretical information about the physiological characteristics of premature babies and the special features of nursing care. The learning material also includes an information game about premature infants, a “Test your knowledge!” exam section, where the student can test the development of their own learning. In the spring 2022, the relevance and usefullness of the e-learning material has been assessed by Laurea’s nursing students in the basic course of Pediatric nursing. This e-learning material will be utilized in Laurea's in-depth course “Nursing for Severely Ill Children and Adolescents”....
